 Welcome to Steve’s Corner

World traveler, lifelong runner, and Nike shoe guy – this space is where I connect the stories that have shaped my life. From a childhood that bounced from Tennessee to Japan to Spain, to running at the University of Oregon with Steve Prefontaine and Bill Bowerman, to four decades making Nike shoes in Asia, I’ve been surrounded by sport, people, and places worth remembering.

Steve’s Corner is my place to reflect on all of it: the races, the factories, the family moments, and the lessons that still matter today. Instead of telling these stories only in strict date order, I’m organizing them into a few themes so you can jump in wherever your interest lies.

Where to start

  • Origins & Family – Growing up overseas, discovering I was a runner in body and mind, and the people who set my foundation.

  • Oregon & Pre – University of Oregon track, Steve Prefontaine, Bill Bowerman, teammates, and the birth of Nike at Hayward Field.

  • Nike & Work – Early days at Blue Ribbon Sports/Nike, building shoes in Asia, factory partnerships, and leadership lessons from the ground.

  • Running & Races – Stories from the track, road races, Hood to Coast, and what running continues to teach me.

  • Steve’s Corner (Reflections) – Looking back from today: connecting old photos, new conversations, and what still matters.

Over time I’ll link older stories, photos, videos, and chapters from my book 1972 into these themes so this becomes a living map of my life with Pre, UO track, Nike shoes, and the people around them all. Thanks for stopping by – feel free to start with any story that catches your eye.
